Program Specialist

Department: Infinity Unit
Location: Fort Pierce, FL

Job Title: Program Specialist (specifically working with teens; ages 13-18)

Salary: starting pay $10 per hour

Hours: up to 25 hours per week; non-exempt employee

Reports to: Will vary; School Based Club Director/Program Director

Location: Fort Pierce & Port St. Lucie 

1. INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this job description is to report the functions, requirements, and working conditions, and office responsibilities of the Program Specialist. This position reports directly to the Program Director.

2. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The primary functions of the Program Specialist are to plan, implement, supervise and evaluate activities provided within a specific program area such as education, social recreation, arts and crafts, and sports and fitness. The essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes
  • Promote and stimulate program participation with the members
  • Register new members and participate in their club orientation process
  • Act as a role model and provide guidance to all members
  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for drop-in members and visitors
  • Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in the programs, and the appearance of the branch at all times.
  • Prepare periodic activity reports as requested.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly branch staff meetings
  • Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff, including volunteers, members, and supervisors to receive and/or provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines, and instructions.
  • Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members parents, and others to assist in resolving problems
3. OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • May be asked to participate in special programs and/or events
  • May be asked to drive the Club van if needed
  • Support other projects as needed
  • Completes any additional assignments as requested by the management staff
4. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
 
Must pass level 2 fingerprints with the Department of Children & Families.
 
Education / EXPERIENCE                                         

Some experience working with children is beneficial. Current CPR and First Aid Certification is required.

  • Treat all clients, parents, guardians, co-workers, supervisors and people in the community with respect and dignity.
  • Maintain confidentiality of those we serve.
  • Ensure positive employee relations and timely resolution of issues and problems encountered by staff.
  • Ensure the appropriate communication and follow-up of maintenance needs of work site.
  • Assist in ensuring the maintenance and security of supplies, equipment, and food while complying with the assigned budget.
  • Communicate to supervisor any pertinent contact from family, school, or significant others.
  • Follow policies and procedures in responding to emergencies and/or safety issues.
  • Promote and participate in open and effective communication and support with the team.
  • Attend and prepare for all required meetings such as staff meetings, in-service meetings, monitoring meetings and required staff training.
  • Maintain high program standards.
  • Advocate for clients’ rights.
Travel

Some travel may be required for training and/or other business purposes.

5. Working conditions

Fast paced work environment; flexibility to working schedules may be required due to changing business demands. General office conditions is the standard work environment (standing, sitting, and walking). An equal opportunity employer and a smoke, drug and alcohol free workplace.
